“From the earliest writings of man we know that the human race has been comprised of the haves and the have not’s.” Earl Nightingale
Mr. Nightingale being a “have-not” set out to understand why some people are poor while others, he observed, appeared to be so rich.
Why are so few well off financially in a country where success is available to everyone?
A man starts his working career in his 20’s. Often earlier, he is fortunate that he lives in the free world. Assuming he is from Europe or the United States; he has better than 40 years to make a living in either one of the richest continents in the world. Success is literally available to everyone, yet so few are well off financially.
It’s quite a thought provoking message and it should be just that, thought provoking. The question itself is made in such a way that allows you to start ponder the actual meaning behind being a person who “has” the things that he or she wants.
Strap in and buckle down; because things are only going get more thought provoking from here.
Ask yourself these two questions;
- What are you doing in present time to increase your income?
- How much money are you planning to be worth at the age of 65?
When you saw the questions; did you immediately have an answer?
If you blankly stared at the screen with no answer or your answer was no; what does that say about your financial future?
If you don’t know or have to think about it; you don’t really have a plan. Success doesn’t have to be linear by any means, but how you expect to get from point A to point B without a plan?
If you haven’t figured this out by now; it’s not too late – Successful people are not crooks.
People who earn large incomes are not lucky or crooks as those without money are fond of pretending. Their also not necessarily born with bigger and better brains or more talent and only very few are lucky enough to have had rich fathers or grandfathers. Most of the people earning big incomes are starting the same way you and I are doing.
The only real difference between the men who earn “big incomes” and the men who earn “small incomes” are that the men earning the “big incomes” decided to earn more. They are the people who made it their business to earn more.
You see, a woman who does not think about baking a chocolate pie will never look up the recipe for baking a chocolate pie.
In the same way; a man who does not think about driving around Europe will never get the road maps showing how to drive from country to country.
How are you able to calculate risks versus profit and manage your time properly if you never think about these things?
People, who never decide to earn more money, will never look up the rules for earning more money.
Expand your thinking by asking the absurd
Thinking about how you are going to earn more and how much you are going to be worth is just the beginning.
Peter Thiel, an incredibly successful investor who has not only made billions of dollars investing, but is also the co-founder of PayPal and Palantir; asked himself this lead-to question;
Why can’t you reach your 10 year plan in 6 months?
Very, thought provoking. Do we instinctively pick out 10 years as a random arbitrary number, because it seems; sensible, solid and round?
It’s those types of questions that force you to look for a non-obvious answer.
The only way you are going to find answers that you don’t have is by looking for them.
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
Understanding the value of ideas and questions
You have to understand this; that you rewards in life will always be in exact proportion to your service or contribution. You are where you are in life because of what you have done or not done yet.
Every day, ideas float past you in that goldmine of yours and you never make sure to remember them and write them down.
One idea can make you rich and a lot of good ideas can move you steadily up in the work you do.
And the good news is that; IDEAS ARE FREE!
Think about it for yourself; there is nothing that’s being done now commercially that is not going to improve in the years ahead. Think about next year’s apartments and what’s in them is going to be better than this year. Next year’s motorcycles are going to be better than this year’s, next year’s manufacturing and distributing is going to be far better than this year. Nothing is being done as well as it’s going to be done in the future.
Every innovation or future improvement is going to come from someone’s thinking. If it’s not mine, it’s yours or your next door neighbor or someone living across the ocean.
The reason to why Apple is so successful and valuable; is because they go out of their way to predict all of your issues and deliver their device who has all of your problems solved before you even have them.
The whole reason to why I write this post is to make you understand that questions and ideas are not only free, but they also point you in the right direction. How’s this for a question;
When was the last time you predicted someone’s future problem and had a solution for it?
Where is the question pointing you? Its making you get outside of your own head and think about how to help someone else.
Alex Ikonn, entrepreneur, Inventor and Founder of Luxy Hair not only recognizes this but also states it in one of his interviews;
If you look at anybody who’s doing well, all they are doing is constantly thinking about how to give their customers the most amount of value.
You can take away the money from the most successful self-made people on the planet. Some of them might have fraud protection and get it back that way, but most of them will make it back without the extra protection anyway because they know how to do it. It was done with deliberate thinking and careful planning, while taking risks and trying to keep damage to a minimum.
Successful people are not only taking deliberate steps towards their success but their also problem solvers.
Eric Thomas one of my favorite motivational speakers has a trick; every time he and his wife gets invited to a dinner at someone’s home, they always do the dishes. People always ask them – why are you always getting invited to dinners? It’s because they are problem solvers.
I think it’s about time you became a problem solver, if not today, when?
